Block Drive

If you can’t commit to making a whole quilt or top, or just want to have fun with a monthly block – then this page is for you! Make one or more blocks as per the month’s design, and post it off to our quilt assembly elves!

Each month a nominated Q4CL member chooses a particular block design for other members to make. That member will prepare instructions for the block’s construction, often with a unifying colour theme and share that with the wider membership via Facebook this page.

Completed blocks are sent to the named organiser who will then turn the blocks into complete tops. The cost of quilting and finishing these ‘Hugs’ is undertaken either by the organiser themselves, or sponsored by Q4CL who provide wadding and backing labour. Labour is often supplied by a growing team of volunteer longarm quilters.

You can find some block patterns on our Patterns Page.

NOTES FOR BLOCK DRIVE STITCHERS

Please follow the instructions for making the block carefully and sew with an accurate 1/4” seam throughout.

Use standard weight cotton quilting fabrics to construct your blocks and follow the colour and fabric requests.

If the host asks for seams to be pressed in a particular direction please do so, and please press your completed blocks before sending.

If you have any questions about block construction or suitability of fabrics, please ask on our facebook page. Once your blocks are made, we would love to see them. You can upload your photos to the appropriate album on the Q4CL Block Drive facebook page.

You can find some block patterns on our Patterns Page.

Send your blocks to the host by the cut-off date. Want to know more? Join the Q4CL Block Drive Facebook Group.

“I have been wrapping up your amazing quilts for some of our care leavers this week, I’m also a care leaver myself I just wanted to say thank you. They are amazing and the notes on them are so heart warming.”
